Seniors, why do you suppose that a song like the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald?
Maybe because it was a song of honor, and those always seem to resonate with people. I remember the event well. I too am born and bred Michigan...Detroit in fact, which is actually where the Edmund Fitzgerald was on it's way to...not Cleveland as the song said. They were going to dock in Cleveland for the winter after the voyage to Detroit...which as we all know now...tragically never happened. I learned that interesting fact (and many others) from a man I worked with, who is the grandson of Reverend Ingalls from the Mariners Church...literally the man who "tolled the bell 29 times".
